del.icio.us simplifies link blogging

September 16th, 2005

Even though I’m not a very prolific blogger, lately I’ve deferred my need to record links for personal use by posting to del.icio.us. Much less clutter in the blog, easier to search, and still syndicated.

Guess I had better rethink the purpose of this blog.

ostrowalker - Google Search

August 30th, 2005

Weirdness. Just doing my occasional vain search for my last name on Google I discovered at the bottom of page 2 a link to a French translation of my blog.

It looks like someone tried to translates my wife’s blog into French, but how did it end up as a Google hit?!

Also amusing is the convenient Google re-translation of my page back into English.

New Blog, new look, same old content…

March 27th, 2005

Now that Movable Type has gone all commercial and support for my free v2.66 is waning, I decided it was prudent to shift to the new and exciting WordPress blogging software. I’m astounded.. all claims were true: it only took five minutes to install. It even only took a few seconds to import my entire MovableType archives!

Now I’ve just got to perform a little customization to get things looking unique and stuff. Maybe the easier-to-useness of it will prompt even more blogging!

Social Bookmarks

Interesting, del.icio.us takes link blogging to a very specific level and builds a community around it. It’s certainly compelling to look at the links that thousands of other people find interesting.

Zempt wins immunity; SharpMT gets the boot

In my one hour blitz test of blog posting software, I’m giving Zempt a thumb up and tossing SharpMT back into the ether.

MT Blog posting tools

May 17th, 2004

For the last few weeks I’ve been stifling my frustration that the edit buttons for posting to MovableType blogs don’t show up in Firefox, or probably any non-IE browsers. All I had to do was a Google search.

The code at kurcula.com with a tweak listed at Blogzilla fixed me up.

[Update: this link gets the same thing working in Bookmarklets]

This got me to thinking that perhaps I should use a desktop based tool for my main posting and save myself the trouble of using a decent, but clunky, web interface. My preliminary searches came up with SharpMT and Zempt. I’ll have to check them out and see what I think.

I’ve set up the MIDlog app on my phone and here is my first mobile post! Watch my data plan charges skyrocket now…

Update: the software doesn’t currently support categories or setting the title of the entry; I’ll have to ensure that it’s in the works
